Crafting Automotive Art with Vintage Flair: A Journey with Greg from Macy Enterprises

In the world of automotive design and artistry, there are those who seamlessly blend nostalgia with innovation, creating pieces that evoke the bygone eras of racing and mechanical mastery. Greg, at Macy Enterprises, is one such individual whose journey into this captivating realm is as inspiring as the creations he brings to life.

“I didn’t grow up around cars necessarily but I did grow up around airplanes, so the romanticization and freedom of mechanical things was there from a young age,” Greg reflects on his early inspirations. “I always have felt like I was born many decades late, as I’ve always been inspired by aviation and car racing from the 30s through the 60s especially.”

Despite his initial fascination with airplanes, Greg’s heart was drawn to the world of automotive design and artistry. “While my primary creative career path has been through shoe design, cars are still my first love and what I always come back to,” he shares, highlighting the enduring passion that fuels his artistic endeavors.

Greg’s creative process is a journey of exploration and discovery, fueled by meticulous research and boundless imagination. “Whether the project is for a patron or personal, it always starts with researching for visual and written inspiration,” he explains. “I love following that wherever it leads – a designer’s output is only as great as their input!”

His preference for analog sketching and rendering speaks to his classical training and reverence for traditional craftsmanship. “Nothing beats analog sketching and rendering,” Greg asserts. “For me, alcohol and acrylic paint markers over ink is where the real magic happens.”

Yet, Greg also embraces modern digital tools, seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary techniques to bring his visions to life. “Of course, having studied in the modern shoe design field, I’ve become versed in digital rendering and drafting programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate and now Fresco,” he adds.

Throughout his career, Greg has tackled a myriad of projects, each presenting its own set of challenges and opportunities for creative expression. “Honestly, the car design and art field is pretty unchallenging compared to the shoe and fashion design field,” he admits. “Maybe I just haven’t run into a big challenge yet in cars?”

However, Greg’s approach to overcoming obstacles is rooted in his solutions-oriented mindset and open-mindedness. “I strive to be open-minded and solutions-based,” he emphasizes, underscoring the importance of adaptability and flexibility in the creative process.

Communication is paramount for Greg, ensuring that his artwork aligns with the client’s vision and expectations. “Understanding what the client’s personal or corporate brand is and how to fit into their DNA is key,” he notes, highlighting the collaborative nature of his artistic endeavors.

When it comes to his artistic style, Greg’s work is characterized by simplicity, vibrant colors, and a minimalist aesthetic. “Less IS more,” he asserts. “I’m not one to indulge in backgrounds and landscapes. Focus on the product or machine and embrace the white space around it.”

Looking to the future, Greg envisions launching his own brand inspired by vintage racing, running, and irreverent art. “Ultimately, I want an ‘atelier,’ as the French say, where upstairs we make cool clothes and downstairs we make cool cars,” he shares, embodying the spirit of creative entrepreneurship and self-determination.

Greg’s journey into automotive design and artistry is a testament to the power of passion, creativity, and perseverance. With each stroke of the pen and brush, he continues to leave an indelible mark on the industry, inspiring others to embrace their own unique artistic journeys.
